Evita Grant, Esq., PhD., is the Managing Partner of Yaaba P.C.  She founded Yaaba P.C. to democratize legal access for businesses, ensuring that legal services are inclusive and affordable for all, irrespective of budget constraints.

 

With a rich and dynamic legal background forged in the fast-paced environment of startup ecosystems, Evita brings a comprehensive suite of legal expertise to the table. Having played a pivotal role in the formation and growth of her startup, Evita's experience encompasses a diverse array of critical areas. From navigating the intricacies of company formation and drafting robust contractor and employee agreements to structuring airtight commercial contracts and agreements, Evita has honed her skills in crafting legal frameworks that foster business success. Her proficiency extends to corporate governance, ensuring businesses adhere to the highest standards, as well as navigating the complex landscape of data privacy and security. She has successfully steered financial strategies, safeguarded intellectual property assets, and devised effective legal strategies tailored to diverse jurisdictions. Additionally, her adept handling of regulatory and legal compliance matters ensures that businesses remain resilient and adaptable across borders. Her commitment is to provide unparalleled legal support, derived from a wealth of experience in multiple countries, making high-quality legal expertise accessible to startups worldwide.

Evita was formerly a member of the Patents & Innovations Practice group of the prestigious top 50 law firm, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. Her practice included intellectual property development, counseling, and monetization for clients in the life sciences, biotechnology, clean energy, and high-tech industries. In addition, she assisted her clients with commercial agreements, mergers & acquisitions, IPO due diligence, and regulatory & legal compliance.

 

Evita has consulted the Brazilian government's Institute of Applied Economic Research, where she researched legal and non-legal policies that support technology transfer from academic institutions to private markets in the U.S. and Brazil and formulated governmental policy recommendations on legal reforms and non-legal infrastructure critical to support and expand local biotechnology industries in emerging markets.

 

She also authored the first article ever published in the Food and Drug Law Journal relating to FDA regulation of CRISPR gene-editing technology. Chinese-based publishing group, Angle Publishing requested publishing rights to publish an article in Chinese for the entire Greater China region.

 

Moreover, she helped establish an exemption to the Anti-Circumvention Rule of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) that allows independent researchers to access the information necessary to evaluate the safety, security, and effectiveness of medical devices.

 

Evita is a graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (BSc in Chemical Engineering) and Harvard University (PhD in Engineering Sciences and JD in Law).
